Protocol status

Working draft — V1 in active development. Everything on this site is published for review. Message formats, thresholds, fixture formats, and conformance profiles may change until the V1 protocol version is tagged.

V1 scope

In V1 Out of V1
Browser verifier + phone presenter roles Phone-as-verifier
Session, signal, vector, comparison, and crypto specifications Identity products of any kind
Calibration handshake Trusted-contact / persistent-trust profiles
Conformance fixtures + tiered decoder profiles Presenter-initiated (attestation) flows
Self-hostable relay interface

Vero is not an identity provider. The protocol authenticates liveness and presence — that the person on camera is a real human, present right now, whose face matches the evidence captured in this session. Binding that proof to a persistent external identity (a public key the presenter controls) is an optional profile built on bring-your-own trust anchors; Vero never issues, hosts, or resolves identity. Specifications for post-V1 profiles are not published here.

Versioning

One protocol version pins the complete interoperability set:

  • cryptographic suite and key-derivation parameters
  • signal encoding (palettes, timing, framing)
  • entangled-vector layout and the embedding model version (weights are hash-pinned protocol artifacts)
  • comparison thresholds and decision logic
  • session message schemas

Implementations negotiate the protocol version at session start. Cross-version sessions fail loudly rather than degrade.

Patent

The system described by this protocol is the subject of a filed patent application:

"A Method and System for Authentication of a User" Inventors: Ankur Garg, James Canterbury

Licensing

The Vero Protocol specifications are published for review and evaluation. The reference implementations are proprietary software of Zeroth Technology LLC — all rights reserved.
